FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Yes, we provide free initial consultations. These consultations are generally brief, and limited to up to 30 minutes. However, we do charge for any follow-up consultations, as it means that we are not spending that time working for our other clients. Please note that all initial consultations are offered via phone or video conference only.
- We don’t know. We really need to meet with each client individually to see what their options are, if any, and design a case-specific strategy. During the initial consultation, we will also advise you if we believe your case does not have any chances to be successful and explain the reasons for this. We refuse to accept cases that lack merit or legal basis, since we believe they are not a good investment of your time and energy, plus potentially putting an individual’s immigration future in a vulnerable position.
- For most cases, we use a flat-fee structure. This means that clients pay one legal fee for legal services related to their case and nothing else. There are no hidden administrative fees or extra expenses. However, clients are responsible for government fees. During initial consultations with clients, we explain their options, legal strategy, and details about both legal and government fees.
- Yes, in most cases we offer payment plans. Generally, payment plans require a payment of half of the legal fees to begin to work on a case, and the remaining balance due immediately prior to the submission of any petitions or applications. We discuss our payment plans, as well as any applicable discounts, during consultations with clients.
- Our office regularly accepts pro-bono cases. We usually partner with charitable organizations to identify our cases, but at times we also accept them through our office. We understand that legal services are oftentimes expenses and this is a barrier to many qualifying immigrants to pursue a case. This is why we try to offer affordable prices, payment plans when needed, and assist clients to have their government fees waived if applicable.
- Unfortunately, governmental agencies that handle these cases charge a fee to applicants. We don’t like it either, but most cases have a governmental fee involved and without it they would not process a case. However, certain individuals could qualify for a fee waiver for these filing fees, and we are more than happy to work with them to avoid unnecessary fees.
- No. A governmental official will be making a decision on your case, not us. However, we can assure you that we will work with you to prepare the strongest case we can. As long as you legally qualify for a benefit, we are more than happy to talk with you about working on an individualized strategy for your case.
